Duterte Performs Per Trump’s Request, sings at the Gala
Philippine President Rodrigo Duterte gives a surprise performance at the summit dinner in Manila as requested by US President Donald Trump in the 31st Annual Association of Southeast Asian Nations (ASEAN) Summit last November 12, 2017. The witty and charming president sang an old-time favorite Filipino love song “Ikaw” on stage along with the local pop diva Pilita Corrales before President Trump and the participating Asian leaders. The Canadian Prime Minister Justin Trudeau also was in the event as well.
As the song ends, Duterte smiled and said, “Ladies and gentlemen, I sang uninvited, in a duet, with Miss Pilita Corales, upon the orders of the commander-in-chief of the United States.”
Trump claims he has a “great relationship” with the Philippines’ president, Rodrigo Duterte. He makes a statement that he does not have a public rebuke on Duterte’s approach on drugs in the Philippines.
Trump says before he boards the Air Force One back to Washington DC last Tuesday, November 14.
